His Child Was Groomed Online. He Created an AI Start-Up to Fight Back.
How AI is changing the fight against child sexploitation.
Several weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend a conference put on by my friends Eagle Venture Funds (shoutout Vip & Wes), featuring some of the fastest-growing startups revolutionizing the fight against online child exploitation. My last post included an interview I did w/ Richard Pursey, the developer of HarmBlock, a fantastic technology that’s about to save tons of kids from being sextorted. That’s one way to keep child sex abuse material (CSAM) from proliferating online - are there others?
David Everitt is living proof that there are other ways to keep kids safe online. Several years ago, his young child was targeted & groomed in a Minecraft chat by someone posing as another child (the actual computer address linked to the Ivory Coast). David, an IT professional, wasn’t about to let this lie. So, just like every tech-savvy super-dad dreams of doing, he started a company to help parents keep their children from being victimized by total strangers online. From Microsoft to Roblox, online gaming is a hotbed for child abuse - and the private sector is working hard to generate solutions like GameSafe.Check out my interview with David here!
(Yes, I’m still posting articles here, just not today. Expect a mix going forward.)
NOTE: This episode contains some fairly on-the-nose descriptions of online child predation.
